Built to Last 40+ Years: A Metal Garage Roof Project

At Hancock Signature Roofing, asphalt shingles and tile make up the bulk of what we install across Utah. So when a metal roofing project comes across our schedule, it’s worth featuring, and our recent garage roof for the Baldwin family is a perfect example of why metal earns its reputation.

This project started the way many great roofs do: out with the old. We stripped the existing roof all the way down to a clean deck, laid down a premium peel-and-stick underlayment for an extra layer of waterproofing, and installed a crisp standing seam metal system. The result is a roof built to last 40 or more years, more than double the lifespan of a typical shingle roof.

Why Homeowners Choose Metal

Metal roofing isn’t the right fit for every home, which is part of why we install it less often than shingles or tile. But when it’s the right choice, the advantages are hard to beat.

Longevity is the headline. A properly installed standing seam metal roof can last 40 to 70 years, often outliving two or three shingle roofs in the same span. The concealed-fastener design means there are no exposed screws to back out or leak over time, so the system stays watertight through Utah’s freeze-thaw cycles.

Metal also stands up to our climate. It sheds snow and rain efficiently, resists wind uplift, and won’t crack, curl, or rot. Many metal finishes are highly reflective, helping keep attics cooler in summer and trimming energy costs. And because metal is non-combustible, it adds a measure of fire resistance that matters in our dry Utah summers.

Then there’s the look. That clean, modern standing seam profile gives garages, additions, and homes a distinctive, high-end finish that holds its color and curb appeal for decades.

The Hancock Signature Difference

Metal roofing demands precise measurements, custom panel fabrication, and experienced hands, exactly the kind of work our crews take pride in. As a local, second-generation, Utah family-owned contractor, we bring that same signature craftsmanship to every project, whether it’s a full home, a garage, or a specialty metal system.

We’re proud to serve homeowners across Salt Lake County, Utah County, and surrounding communities, including Draper, Sandy, Holladay, Cottonwood Heights, Herriman, South Jordan, Bluffdale, Lehi, Highland, Alpine, and Park City.
